Balancing the needs of the business with those of your team requires a number of different skills and these situations are often very difficult to prepare for.<\/p>\n<p>This panel session will provide a platform for a group of tech leads to come together and share their experiences, insights and advice around the topic of managing conflict and overcoming difficult moments within your teams.<\/p>\n<p>Our panelists are all at various stages of their own leadership journeys and will be offering a range of perspectives and viewpoints to help you on your way.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thekua.com\/atwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/TechLeadPanel.jpg\" alt=\"Tech Lead Panellists\" width=\"693\" height=\"438\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2594\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thekua.com\/atwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/TechLeadPanel.jpg 693w, https:\/\/thekua.com\/atwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/TechLeadPanel-300x190.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 693px) 100vw, 693px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The panelists shared their experiences around situations like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Having a tough conversation with a team member or customer;<\/li>\n<li>Sharing how they have dealt with overtime (weekends, later work);<\/li>\n<li>How they resolved a technical disagreement within a team; and<\/li>\n<li>Handling a particularly aggressive person, or being aggressively threatened;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The audience also threw in a few questions like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dealing with office politics;<\/li>\n<li>Finding access to key influencers\/stakeholders;<\/li>\n<li>Where you draw the line with a person on a team; and<\/li>\n<li>Dealing with a technical stakeholder who is too involved, because they seem to have too much time;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also had some great sound bites in relation to the topics being discussed. <\/p>\n<p>To deal with angry people: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Be the adult &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/laurapatersonuk\">Laura Paterson<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>or just:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Let them vent &#8211; Jon Barber<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Managing stakeholders is hard, and you sometimes need to take a stance:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It&#8217;s easy to say no &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/priyachandran\/\">Priya Samuel<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>People in teams need feedback to both strengthen confidence and improve effectiveness. However: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Frank feedback is really hard. Give the person a chance. &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gardym\">Mike Gardiner<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lastly when thinking about people and teams:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Have empathy.
