Best Of Groove Armada

About two months ago, I saw that Groove Armada were coming to perform at The Arena. Having caught the two DJs at Summerfieldayze earlier this year, I was keen to see the entire ensemble perform but baulked at the hefty $75+ ticket. So I’m sure you can understand my unusually spontaneous behaviour when I found out that they announced a second show (the last one before leaving Australia) for a comparatively meagre (*cough*, *cough*) $50! I, of course, just had to go.

Groove Armada Best Of CDThough it would have been good to go to Tuesday’s performance, I think the late announcement helped to make last night’s performance even more fantastic as the venue was well filled without the cramping that would normally mean little room to move, let alone breathe. It was great to see all of the members that contribute to the unique sounds of their music, with the entire night being completely visually and aurally amazing.

Groove Armada have produced a number of fantastic albums over the years. Their songs feature in so many other compilations albums (both chillout and more upbeat dance ones) and represent a testament to their success as a group. Being their ‘Best Of’ tour, it was great to hear so many of their most well known tunes (and a number of remixes) pumped out all night. There were so many songs throughout the night, including (but not limited to):

  • Easy (Lovebox)
  • Final Shakedown (Lovebox)
  • Madder (Lovebox)
  • Fogma (Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub))
  • My Friend (Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub))
  • At The River (Vertigo)
  • Chicago (Vertigo)
  • I See You Baby (Vertigo)

I’m sure everyone was as concerned as me when they had finished their set without playing arguably their most well known tracks, Superstylin’ (from Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub)), but I was of course not disappointed at all when they performed it as part of their encore. A fantastic performance that was only topped off by a second encore of the night!
