To escape the warmth of the day R and I went to see Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior. Thank goodness the cinema had air-conditioning.
Forget the story – this movie is about martial arts action without wires or CGI. Basically, Ong Bak is the story of a simple village boy’s quest to return the head of the village’s Buddha statue that was stolen by the evil city boy. Ting (Panom Yeerum or Tony Jaa) plays the central character and his goodness oozes out of him. It really is a story of good versus evil.
Jaa is amazing as he leaps over cars, leaps up walls, walks on people’s heads, performs amazing acrobatics and then there is his Muay Thai fighting skills. Lots of replays from different angles ensures you don’t miss a single bit – even when you are cringing with the thought of that much pain being inflicted on another human being.
A fun movie.
