Juno

Its not often that I buy into the hype surrounding Oscar nominated movies but for once I could actually agree that this was one fantastic movie – from the very original story-line, the unique characters, the great deliveries from all actresses/actors in the movie, and to the quirkiest and laugh out lines you’ll ever hear in one movie.

What was truly charming about this movie was that all characters you meet along the way are cool – there are no baddies as such, well, maybe Jennifer Garner’s character is a little sad – and all have snappy lines. Even the “wicked” step-mother ends up being a very cool character – don’t shoot me for over-using “cool” in this review because Juno is just that – cool.

Juno is a tale of teen pregnancy but unlike any teenage pregnancy story you’ve heard before. Juno is the girl who falls pregnant to her best friend (played by my boy-crush Michael Cera) after they sleep together for the first time. That she’s not whiny or full of self-pity is refreshing. She tackles the pregnancy with a self-confidence you don’t normally find in someone so young as she decides to put the baby up for adoption.

Totally loved this movie so much so that I think this is one movie that I could actually watch over and over. The wise-cracks and sharp lines still have me chuckling even now. But its not all laughter – there is a Serious Matter involved after all – but somehow it manages to deliver something that is heart-warming and extremely clever. Brilliant.
