Resident Evil: Apocalypse is a pure Popcorn movie! And surprisingly I don’t mean that in a negative sense. It was obvious that this sequel to Resident Evil was never going to win any Oscars for acting or writing but for pure entertainment value I can highly recommend it. If there was one complaint I had – it was that there were too many explosions as I like my action a bit more personal (i.e. give me those one-on-one or one vs thirty fight scenes).
Just a bit about the plot: the story continues with The Hive being reopened causing the infection previously contained to break out and infect the whole of Raccoon City. As a result the city is quarantined with the threat of nuclear action on the horizon. In the middle of this Alice (Milla Jovovich) wakes up, naked of course and covered with nothing but towel, in a lab to find that Raccoon City is now the city of the dead. Of course there are a smattering of survivors, a new cast lead by Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine (a no nonsense cop who looks surprisingly like Lara Croft), whom Alice teams up with to escape the city in an urgent race to beat the zombies and the nuclear bomb. And of course there is the introduction of a new threat: Nemesis.
In contrast with Troy, this is one movie I wouldn’t mind seeing again, with plenty of female kick-ass action and only limited thinking required of me as a viewer. Just what the doctor ordered after a crazy week.
