I can’t remember ever having watched Eurovision from start to finish but this year, thanks to Mirela’s obsession with the event, I’ve not only watched the Final start to finish, I watched one of the semi-finals AND I even voted – not once but twice! ha ha. I voted for Greece’s Kalomira of course (and we were glad to see that the UK gave her the 12 points!)
For the last few weeks all I’ve heard from Mirela is Chiki-Chiki-this and Chiki-Chiki-that (Chiki-Chiki being Spain’s entry) which admittedly is actually a very funny song and to my mind represents the craziness of Eurovision. Her Mum rang up today to tell us that it looks like it, along with the Armenian entry, is actually going to be one of the Greek summer hits in the clubs! Hilarious. Something to look forward to when I visit in July.
We were a bit disappointed with the results of the Eurovision but unfortunately everyone knew it was basically going to be a Russian win. Admittedly the song isn’t so bad and I was quite surprised to see Yevgeny Plyushchenko (defending men’s figure skating olympic champion) out there as part of the act. Now he truly has won everything!
Hi hi Grace
I saw Eurovision too (albeit delayed telecast on SBS). Wanna compare notes?: http://daplanetdt.blogspot.com/2008/05/eurovision-song-contest-2008.html
As always, there is that “bloc voting” – voters use the “vote for our neighbours” policy. It helped Russia a lot. But it’s all fun to watch.
