The plot outline goes like this: “Plaid-skirted schoolgirls are groomed by a secret government agency to become the newest members of the elite national-defense group, D.E.B.S.”
Hmm … intriguing enough to bring me to my fourth London Film Festival movie and the great thing was that I was delighted to find my happy Hollywood ending at last. To appreciate D.E.B.S. you have to be realise the movie does not take itself seriously at all. It makes absolute fun of itself and the spy agent genre of movies (the biggest movie it makes fun of is Charlies’ Angels.) It even had a Demi Moore like character in the bad guy – or gal I should say – played by Jordana Brewster (of Fast and the Furious fame). Basically the premise is that there is a secret test hidden in the traditional SATs that identify students who can lie, cheat, fight and steal. Those that score well are recruited into a secret government defence agency – D.E.B.S. This story-line pits the ‘perfect score’ Amy againt the arch villain Lucy Diamond (played by Jordana) – both who end up closer than they want to admit … at first.
This movie began life as a short at the Sundance Film Festival and proved so popular that it was taken up for this full length feature. I definitely give it a thumbs up (but don’t ask me what D.E.B.S. stands for!)
