El Cantara

The only problem with going to a combination restaurant like El Cantara is being able to sample from all parts of the menu. El Cantara delivers Spanish/Moroccan cuisine to the heart of Soho and it doesn’t do it too shabbily.

There is a large number of tapas style starters and a few main dishes including tagines, cous cous and paella. Neither of us were exactly hungry but we still ended up with about five tapas dishes to start with and shared a chicken tagine (which came with a small serve of cous cous) and a salad (a strange orange and carrot sald which actually quite worked well.) The food was prety decent in particular the Zaalouk (smoked aubergine with mixed spices) and the Soujouk (spicy sausage) both of which went very well with the very nice hot Moroccan Bread.

Service was efficient (though admittedly it was rather early on in the evening when we were dining so the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy yet so not a true test of efficiency) and very friendly and helpful.

Really good value with the 50% top table offer.
