Spidey III at The Electric

The Electric is a super cool cinema located in Notting Hill so its such a shame that considering I live about 15 minutes walk away I’ve never seen a movie there!

Booking ahead is definitely the key at The Electric particularly for the bigger blockbusters and also on Mondays (when prices are cheaper.) The cinema seats just over 100 cinema goers so its not a huge cinema by any stretch of the imagination but the screen is more than adequate for your viewing. The cinema is broken up into three sections:

– The rear which features the 2 person seater sofas. Nice for those who want to cuddle.
 – The middle which features nice large comfortable leather seats (big enough to curl up in!) with footstool and side table with wine cooler.
– The front rows (three) which are the same as the middle rows but sans the footstool.

The cinema also has a bar at the back of the cinema which is open for about half an hour before the movie begins. Be prepared however for a winner takes all attitude with the patrons because you can politely wait in line only to find that everyone else is pushing in front of you. And this is quite possibly the main drawback of the cinema – the other cinema goers. I couldn’t believe how pushy some of them were. Sigh.

On to Spidey III. I don’t have too many good things to say about this movie and though I know I have to keep reminding myself its a comic book movie that is not a good reason for it to be average. We’ve all seen the trailer so we know Spiderman goes bad and has to fight of three villains. What you don’t see is everyone crying .. a lot – so it strangely became this action movie with all this emotional baggage. So in summary:

The Good. Some very crazy over the top action scenes. Unexpected humour. Bruce Campbell.
The Bad. Too long. Too complicated. Too many characters. REALLY REALLY bad acting. No fresh ideas.
