It is New Year’s Eve and Precinct 13, manned by two cops (Ethan Hawke and Brian Dennehy) and one secretary (Drea de Matteo), is closing down for good. Like Precinct 13 Ethan’s Sergeant Jake Roenick has seen better days. Nevertheless the weather, bad road conditions and fate has conspired to deliver to his doorstep crime boss Marion Bishop (Laurence Fishburne). What follows is showdown those on the inside and those on the outside.
I would have liked to have delivered a glowing review of this movie, partial as I am to the talents of Ethan and one of my favourite actresses of the moment, Drea, unfortunately in this “re-imagining” of the 1976 movie of the same name there is nothing that we haven’t seen before. The plot was so predictable you could spot the formula a mile away. Seriously, does anyone believe that a small group of people with limited firepower inside a rundown precinct could hold off a force more than five times their size, who by the way have hi-tech gear, massive firepower and explosives, for an entire night. Yea right. But, on the plus side, once you get over this you can sit back, relax and enjoy what is otherwise an entertaining action film. Hey there is plenty of violence, blood and gore to entertain all.
Well! Lawks a lummy what a lovely coconut!
