London Film Festival 2007 – City Of Men

City of Men was a Brazilian television programme from the directors of the infamous film City of God that ran for four seasons from 2002. At this year’s London Film Festival we saw the transformation of this popular tv series (according to wikipedia over 35 millions Brazilians watched it!) into the big screen.

The movie is such an attractive package – the gorgeous scenery offerred by the Brazilian landscape, despite being set in the slums, complimented by the very attractive locals and intriguing story line – I could have watched this movie all night. The young boys who feature in the movie are amazing in the roles and do fabulously to bring life to their characters.

The basic story involves two young best friends who are confronted by a long standing secret which threatens to destroy their entire relationship. Set against the gangster and drug wars of the slum the movie is often emotional and violent but strangely uplifting at its conclusion.

A definite must see this one.
