My feelings for this sequel run are only slightly more positive than my feelings for the sequel to Meet the Parents.
Loosely, Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) is now so recognisable that a career as an undercover agent is no longer feasible so she is given the job of “face” of the FBI. Cue the glam consultant played by Dietrich Bader who, though delivering a very sterotypical flaming gay persona, does have some moments. Friend and Miss USA is kidnapped and Bullock (along with bodyguard Regina King) is sent to Las Vegas to handle the media.
Boyfriend Benjamin Bratt’s character is written out with a typical break-up over the phone (boo hoo) however Enrique Murciano, who plays the Las Vegas liaison, is cute enough. (Interestingly, he had a small part in another one of Bullock’s not so great sequels: Speed 2.)
Overall, the movie was consistent. No side-stitching moments but sufficient laughs for fans of the first movie. The interplay between Bullock and King is interesting and at times touching. Good? Yes. Fabulous? .. not really.
Whadayamean? ‘good?yes’? I’ve seen the film and its a block a booble – and
no mistake!
Uncle Bobby you make me laugh. Perhaps “good” was too flattering. Passable may have been more appropriate.
